Madonna in Domestic Bliss

Dolce & Gabbana have used Madonna, the perfect housewife and caretaker, as their model for the Spring – Summer 2010 campaign images. The pictures are shot by Stephen Klein and show Madonna doing the dishes, eating spaghetti and doing something creative with bread, apples and milk.

The campaign takes inspiration from the days of Italian Neorealism. Madonna herself recalls the strong, raw sensuality of actress Anna Magnani. Another source of inspiration was actress Monica Vitti, who is Madonna’s favorite actress.

Great photographs, but what’s really getting my attention is the pretty interior with the lace curtains and tablecloth…..

Early 80′s Madonna

A couple of days ago I’ve watched Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour on tv.  The dance routines, her stage outfits, the video screenings, every detail is 100% perfect. But somehow I got bored by it.  I miss the early 80′s Madonna. She had her brilliant own style at that time and sadly that seems to have gone.

These are my favorite pictures from her from 1979-1983. Without any budget and without an army of stylists (she did work together with French stylist Maripol, who came up with the rubber bracelets and the crucifix earrings), she looks amazing:

One of her first video’s, Burning Up from 1983, directed by Steve Baron. Madonna’s friend Debi Mazar was hired as the make-up artist for the video, Maripol was the stylist and Madonna’s then boyfriend Ken Compton appeared as her onscreen lover.

Like a Virgin: Madonna in Venice

My friend and I were supposed to go to the Pinkpop festival (Dutch pop festival), until we found out that tickets for one day cost €75,-………….euhm, that’s a lot of cash for one day of fun. So we decided to to something else instead, like visiting a friend in Venice.

I’m not the traveling type. I hate cheap hotel rooms, dirty toilets, scary insects, suspicious food, sunburn, etc. So I was thinking, hmmmm, what to expect of Venice. I don’t know a lot of Venice, there’s the Venetian carnaval, a lot of canals, and what else?

But then I realised: The Like a Virgin video from Madonna was made in Venice!

The Like a Virgin video was brilliant because Madonna had the best style: lace, studded bracelets, layers, multiple necklaces, visible bra’s, crosses and heavy make up. I really like the dress in the first photo and the blue jacket she wears in the video.

So I’m going to rent a boat, float through the Venetian canals and salute Madonna!

Not good

New year and new dissapointments..i had high hopes of the new Louis Vuitton ad campaign shot by Steven Meisel when i saw the first few pictures.. styling is nice and demure, Madonna’s face nicely airbrushed. check. check.

then this happend;

She is almost getting to a point where i’m almost embarassed for her.. This just should not have been done. When i see this in magazine i certainly will not feel compelled to buy anything off that page whilst looking down Madonna’s crotch. Who exactly will want to buy the (quite cheap looking-anyway) LV undies? It’s just beyond me. Have her put out another sex book if she wants to provoke reaction, but don’t try to sell high fashion with these cheap and overused tactics. This is not doing LV good..this is certaintly another big low moment since the fake LV monogram bag craze at the begining of the 21st century. All it does is cheapen the apeal of the brand. It’s not about age-ism or controversy, it’s just getting boring, doing this with Madonna all over again, these boundries have been moved already 10 years ago..it’s time to close your legs and move on.
