The Ambassador of Go-Go Boots

Somehow one of the great style icons of the sixties, miss Nancy Sinatra, seems to be forgotten on all the fashion blogs of the internet. I don’t know why, she has had a major influance on sixties fashion. In 1966 she had a number one hit record with the song everybody knows: “These boots are made for walking”.  The song helped popularize go-go boots (the calf-, knee- or above knee-high boots with a low or flat heel and a very simple shape, fastened with a zipper). I also think it is one of the most covered songs ever: I’ve seen versions by Megadeth, Lil’Kim and Bromheads Jacket for example.

Not only did Nancy introduce the go-go boots, but she also was a style icon because of her short short dresses, big blond hair and the most amazing eyeliner I’ve ever seen.

Oh, and her dad is pretty cool as well……

Looking ridiculously good on the record sleeves she’s made.

And because some girls have all the luck, she made some movies as well. For example with Elvis…….

And if that’s not enough, she had Lee Hazelwood writing songs for her, and they recorded the best duet in history: “Some Velvet Morning”. Primal Scream did a cover version together with Kate Moss, but I prefer the original.
