Topshop Fall 2010 preview

Why is it that every time I think: ‘I have all the clothes I could ever dream of, my closet is perfect and from now on I’m going to start saving some cash’, then there’s Topshop with their new collection and I get the feeling I really, really, desperately need a ……… (name the uwearable trend of the season that my future grandchildren probably will find hilarious).

This Fall the cause of all this will be the Topshop collection. These are some of their Lookbook pictures, shot by Franck Sauvaire and styled by Katie Shillingford.

There are four subcollections:

  • Out Of The Wild:  A wild warrior girl in a post-apocalyptic world where fashion survivors battle the elements.
  • Dark Nouveau: A trip back in time to the dark ages, where the “sinister fairytales of the art nouveau movement” meet the dark and perverse images of illustrator Aubrey Beardsley.
  • Hi Performance: There’s another arty/conceptual description about this theme, but in normal language: sportswear.
  • The Outsiders: Mixes Britain’s heritage with modern fashion.

Love it!

Chloë Sevigny for Opening Ceremony Spring 2011

Oh, Chloë! Is there any girl in the world that has better personal style than her? Not only is she a personal favorite of mine, but at Opneing Ceremony they think the same, because there’s a third collection with her designs for the New York brand. It’s a ‘pre-spring’ 2011 collection (???) and it’s perfect, I want it all. This collection focusses around five prints:  leopard, polka dot, paisley, houndstooth and floral, and also contains matching tights. The prints that have been used are by photographer Robert Mapplethorpe.

More 70’s Stuff: Denim Dungarees

Strange…..last summer I was obsessed by leather and zippers, and this summer I’m into the complete opposite of the fashion spectrum…..I’m loving anything 70’s rural/farmer/prairie/country-thingies. After the clogs (got them), maxi dresses (got them),  I’m now lusting after some denim dungarees. I don’t care which one, long legs, short legs or the dress version, just love them. Inspiration:

Summer’s here…

After the cold depressing weather of the past months we had the first warm days of the year……woohoo! The standard ‘problem’ I’m having around this time of the year is….what to wear to work? I’m soo sick of jeans and my usual black tights seem too wintery. Bare legs isn’t an option at my job. But I think I’ve finally got a perfect solution (other than the usual boring business attire). It’s very simple: take a maxi dress, a pair of heels and a tiny blazer or jacket, belt optional)….done! And the good thing about maxi dresses is that they’re in every store at the moment (scored a perfect maxi dress at H&M) and vintage maxi dresses aren’t that hard to find. Some inspiration:

Maxi dress by Zara

New dress by ‘Ossie Clark’

More Ossie….drool. From the AW2009 collection.

Great shape, but wacko print….feathers….peppers…empty balloons??

Chloé, Ready to Wear SS2010. I sooo want this dress…..

Dreamy superromantic dress by Laura Ashley in the 70’s.

I’m getting more and more jealous of Lily Allen’s wardrobe. This dress is simply divine.

Vintage treasure

Another perfect vintage dress by Thea Porter.

Clog it!

A couple of years ago I walked by a shop window and I looked at the shoes of my dreams. I have a soft spot for heels, t-bar straps and studs, and these shoes had them all combined in one:  the Prada silver t-bar clogs. They were $490, my brain did function, so I walked away. A couple of weeks later, they where on sale, and there was one pair left. In my size. So I thanked the shoegods (hmm, it probably was a shoegoddess) and bought my first pair of Prada’s.  They walk like hell (the wooden sole isn’t exactly comfy), but I never regretted it.

My beloved Prada’s.

The great thing about studded, high heelded clogs is 1) they never look too girly, 2) they make a lot of noise when you walk (I like stomping around), 3) men don’t understand them (in fashion, that’s a good thing) and 4) you can wear them with everything! The only condition is that they must have a very high heel, or else you will look like a Swedish macrobiotic, dungarees wearing type from the seventies. Unless you like that look, ofcourse. So I was really excited to see that Karl Lagerfeld brought the coolest version of all back on the catwalk for Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection.

The 1970’s version.

Chanel clogs from the Spring/Summer 2010 collection.

Alexa (with Tavi next to her), wearing the Chanel one’s. Some girls have all the luck…

I love these, they are (how strange?!?)  from Victoria’s Secret.

Lara Stone in a recent Louis Vuitton advertisment, wearing a white pair.

Miu Miu, Fall 2009/Winter 2010.

MaxMara, Fall 2009/Winter 2010.

Mary-Kate Olsen wearing Chloé clogs and a Barbara Hulanicki for Topshop top.

And finally the über Dutch version. As you all know, the Dutch live in windmills , we eat some cheese for breakfast, and then we walk out of the door into the wide tulip fields, wearing the traditional Dutch clogs (without heels ofcourse, because they would stick in the muddy clay soils). 😉 These are the designer version by Viktor & Rolf.

Style it like U mean it

Staying on topic with wardrobe/closet inspiration. I discovered a site that needed it’s own post here for sure. It feautres little style and wardrobe tour video’s of various fabulously creative girls and boys.

It’s absolutely brilliant and worth checking out cause it gives you more of an inside into personal style of real people. More so than just random streetstyle pics. It’s like one of those people would take you home and show you around their closet.  I love seeing how excited these people are about fashion and their style. It’s very recognizible and made me all giddy watching. If you wanna watch all videos your sunday afternoon will be lazy but well spent, mine certainly was 😉

there’s much much more so go check it out!

Oasis Spring Summer 2010

Another preview, this time UK brand Oasis gives us a look at their Spring 2010 collection. So here’s what their press office says about this collection:

Biker jackets, dresses and trousers so skin-tight they had us grimacing with fear, there is no denying that leather was huge news in winter 09. And while many designers have chosen to stick with the skin thing for spring, it seems leather has been put on the the back burner with suede set to enjoy it’s time in the sun. At Burberry Christopher Bailey made use of the tactile fabric to update the brand’s classic trench coat while fellow Brit brand Mulberry unveiled dusky-pink cropped-jackets. A huge hit on the New York runway Derek Lam went for tassle-detail suede jackets and skirts while celeb favourite Tibi used suede to create nude coloured dresses and accessories. Always keen to celebrate the key catwalk looks, Oasis’s nod to this season’s suede is a unique and wearable collection of key pieces in the fabric. From a new take on the legendary biker jacket- in suede of course- to a wild west inspired tassle detail dress that’s utterly in line with the season’s new desert-inspired look, there’s sure to be a suede piece that appeals to everyone.

Looking at the pictures I just thought they looked like Pocahontas meets Alison Mosshart.

Take a look:

You can find Oasis stores in Holland at V&D, or online.
