Cinematic Inspiration : Valley of the Dolls

I hate the wording “camp classic” whenever people describe this movie. It’s one of those  movies that tells a story of a certain time with lots of glorious exadurations of styles, colors and decor. I love it! The movie is about three ladies trying to make it in showbuisness each in their own way and with a different style. Although i love edgy chic 60s mod style this movie also shows a lot of the preppy 60s chic (Barbara Parkins) which is very feminine and charming. Examples of this mostly the huge hair, headbands two piece ensembles. Patty Duke just epitomized cuteness. Then there’s Sharon Tate, who would still be a vamp if she were wearing a bin bag.

When i look at my female idols, past and present, it looks like a lot of them have one hairstyle in common. A hairstyle i myself keep copying; the full bang or fringe, call it what you want depending where you’re from..

It can look fiercely feminine whilst giving the girl in question an innocent and little-girl like look without looking too old for it. It frames the face and makes just about any face-shape look cute. Be it paired with long or half long locks or a sophisticated bob, if you’re into that Anna Wintour look. I’m inspired by the pics i posted and need to get my bangs trimmed just a teeny tiny bit, i’ll have to book that in somehow tommorow. Enjoy the pics and call your hairdresser! 😉

Two in a crowd: Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski

It’s a tragic love story, but i’d like to not focus on tragedy.. so let’s move on from dwelling on that and celebrate what was a beautiful union between two wonderfully creative artists in their own right. Actress Sharon Tate and director Roman Polanski. I’ve always loved the two seperately. Sharon for her free spiritedness, perfect style and beauty and Roman because i’ve always a weakness for Poles ;), most people don’t get this obviously but being a daughter of Polish imigrants, it’s in my blood.. he just has something endearing and fragile that’s very Polish and that i just love.

Anyway I just finished watching the documentary about Roman’s trial(post Sharon’s death)..another thing i’d not like to dwell on, but getting to the point here.. seeing all the images of them touched me deeply. They were lovely together and lived to the max in the inspiring swinging 60s. They were known for throwing the best parties and hanging out with all the right people. So let’s get inspired by them and honor the positive legacy they left of that epic time.
