These are the shoes I’ve been dreaming about for ages: the Miu Miu studded ankle boots, €600,-.
And these are the boots I’ve bought yesterday at the Dutch shoestore van Haaren. They were €40,-.
Once in every five years “over the knee boots” make a comeback. And every time I’m tempted to give it a try and buy them, but always have some excuses not to. The very small, sane part of my brain says: “You will look like a cheap tart, you can’t wear them to work (some of my clients are extremely conservative christian white males), and they will only last one season. But then I saw these pictures of the Dutch Royal Family: Princess Maxima is wearing them! Shocking! I mean, if she can wear them, so can I! So maybe I’m going to listen to the little devil in my head this time and wave my creditcard…
Royal Highness Princess Maxima wearing brown and grey suede over the knee boots. (And leopard……I suddenly feel very frumpy).
Brigitte Bardot’s wearing hers with a leather and sequin mini dress.

Daisy Lowe showing her boots and her underwear.
The Royal Highness of Cool: Debbie Harry.

Actress Barbara Parkins (Valley of the Dolls) from head to toe in leather.
I never thought I would like Roberto Cavalli, but I love the dress and the boots – from the Fall 2009 collection.

The following pictures are from Black Magazine (a magazine I’ve never heard of before…more info is welcome!). The model is Kim Noorda. I can’t get my mind of these photo’s because the shoes/boots/sandals are so intriguing….
In theory, I shouldn’t like them……I mean, I don’t even know how to describe them, there isn’t an occasion you can wear them (except for a fashion shoot) and they are soooo over the top. But I love them and I can’t think of a reason why…..?

Somehow one of the great style icons of the sixties, miss Nancy Sinatra, seems to be forgotten on all the fashion blogs of the internet. I don’t know why, she has had a major influance on sixties fashion. In 1966 she had a number one hit record with the song everybody knows: “These boots are made for walking”. The song helped popularize go-go boots (the calf-, knee- or above knee-high boots with a low or flat heel and a very simple shape, fastened with a zipper). I also think it is one of the most covered songs ever: I’ve seen versions by Megadeth, Lil’Kim and Bromheads Jacket for example.
Not only did Nancy introduce the go-go boots, but she also was a style icon because of her short short dresses, big blond hair and the most amazing eyeliner I’ve ever seen.
Oh, and her dad is pretty cool as well……
Looking ridiculously good on the record sleeves she’s made.
And because some girls have all the luck, she made some movies as well. For example with Elvis…….
And if that’s not enough, she had Lee Hazelwood writing songs for her, and they recorded the best duet in history: “Some Velvet Morning”. Primal Scream did a cover version together with Kate Moss, but I prefer the original.
