The Vogue September Issue

New fashion movie alert! This time it’s actually not a movie, but a documentary about the US september edition of Vogue magazine. The documentary is made by R.J. Cutler and follows Editor in Chief Anna Wintour behind the scenes of the making of the september 2007 issue of Vogue. To give an indication about the importance of the september issue: it weights 2 kilograms and has sold 13 million copies!

The movie shows Anna at the Vogue offices in Manhattan NY, but also follows Sienna Miller at a Vogue covershoot.

Well, maybe I should give some extra information first. I was supposed to go to London with a friend of mine, and we both got tickets for the Blur gig in Hyde Park. Which I’m really looking forward to, because I loved them from the very first start (well, not really, I didn’t find Leisure that interesting but I have been a fan since Modern Life is Rubbish). But my friend can’t go because of “work commitments”. So now I have to go alone, and I don’t mind going to gigs alone, but I would like to see the opening acts (Foals, Crystal Castles) and to spend the whole afternoon and evening all by myself isn’t that attractive. So I made up this contest: I’ll give away her ticket, but in exchange you’ll have to go with me….;-) I promise I’m no freak, mass murderer or nerd, and I will behave decently!

Anyway, if you would like to go, just sent me an e-mail: threeinacrowd at hotmail dot com.

Check out the rehearsal for the 2009 gigs…..:-).

Preview: Anna Sui for Target

A couple of weeks ago, we found out that American designer Anna Sui was going to create a collection for Target.  According to Target, the collection is inspired by the tv-show Gossip Girl.

While doing some “research” (ahum) for this blog, i stumbled upon the website of Nylon Magazine. Some of the items of the Target collection look very simular to Anna Sui’s earlier runway collections. I added the pictures of her past collections to the ones of the Target, so you can check out the simularities for yourself. Take a look:

Personally, I’m a bit neutral about this collection. I like some of the items, like the black dress on the second picture and the white lace dress with the blue bow (just cut off the blue bow and wear with black tights), other items look like we’ve all seen it before. For instance in the fall of 2006. 😉

In stores on the 13th of september 2009.

Byebye Farrah

Sad news today. American actress Farrah Fawcett has died of cancer.  Not only was she know for her role in the detective series Charlie’s Angels (the original one, not the recent Drew Barrymore movies), but she was a major fashion inspiration also. Watching old Charlie’s Angels episodes is a great way to get introduced to seventies fashion (high waisted flared jeans, jumpsuits, tube tops, hotpants, love it!). And there was the famous “flick”, her hairstyle that was copied by millions of girls (and by Madonna, remember her hair in the “Hung Up” video?). As a tribute to Farrah, here are some old pictures of her.

Arnhem Mode Biënnale 2009

There aren’t many fashion events in the Netherlands: there’s a yearly Fashion Week in Amsterdam and sometimes there’s a random exhibition, and that’s about it. Personally, I think the Amsterdam Fashion Week is very overrated: the usual (boring) Dutch fashion designers, the same (boring) Dutch Celebs, and a lot of attention from the (boring) Dutch press. So finally there is an other, much more interesting event: the Arnhem Mode Biënnale.

Some quotes from their website:

”Every two years the Arnhem Mode Biënnale presents the state of affairs in fashion design at an international level. In the space of four years the fashion biennale has evolved into a major trend-setting event with a robustly international orientation. For a month the centre of Arnhem will literally form the core of the third edition of the Arnhem Mode Biënnale.”

“The biennale theme of SHAPE forms the leitmotif for a series of inspirational programme components. To take just a small sample from the programme: for students there are informative workshops, fashion enthusiasts can follow an enchanting shopping route, and for professional visitors there are lectures. And what would a fashion fiesta be without a catwalk?”

“SHAPE is the connecting thread of the greatest cultural fashion event in the world. This year more than 80 fashion labels are participating, including Lanvin, Raf Simons, Hussein Chalayan, Jil Sander, Rick Owens, Martin Margiela and Viktor & Rolf.”

So next week P. and me are going to see some exhibitions and will return with fresh minds about fashion!

Arnhem Mode Biënnale will take place from June 6 to July 6 2009 throughout the centre of Arnhem. For more info check their website: www.arnhemmodebiennale2009.com.
